چکیده

This paper is part of a larger set concerning the study of the last Hale cycle, a cycle that had an unexpected behaviour. Here we analyze the occurrence of the solar flares registered in X-ray as well as in Hα, with the aim to find an explanation for the activity much lower than predicted of the current 11-year solar cycle. We conclude that it could be determined by a pulse of flare activity in the descendent phase of the previous cycle, as well as by its belonging to the secular cycle descendent phase.

Solar Latitudinal Distribution of Solar Flares around the Sun and Their Association with Forbush Decreases during the Period of 1986 to 2003

Solar flare events of high importance were utilised to study solar latitudinal frequency distribution of the solar flares in northern and southern hemisphere for the solar cycle 22 to recent solar cycle 23. A statistical analysis was performed to obtain their relationship with sudden storm commencement (SSCs) and Forbush decrease events (Fd) of cosmic ray intensity. An 11-year cyclic variation ...

The solar magnetic activity band interaction and instabilities that shape quasi-periodic variability

Solar magnetism displays a host of variational timescales of which the enigmatic 11-year sunspot cycle is most prominent. Recent work has demonstrated that the sunspot cycle can be explained in terms of the intra- and extra-hemispheric interaction between the overlapping activity bands of the 22-year magnetic polarity cycle. Those activity bands appear to be driven by the rotation of the Sun's ...

Solar Flare Cycles

We present a review of different solar flare periodicity intervals. Our analysis includes a statistical investigation of flare occurrence and N-S hemispheric distribution over the last three 11-yr solar cycles (SCs 21-23, corresponding to the period 1976-2001). Moreover, we try to estimate if there is any connection between the flare activity and the strength of solar cycles. For that purpose, ...

A Convection Zone Dynamo including the Effects of Magnetic Buoyancy and Downward Flows

A magnetic flux tube may be considered both as a separate body and as a confined field. As a field, it is affected both by the cyclonic convection (α-effect) and differential rotation (Ω-effect). As a body, the tube experiences not only a buoyant force, but also a dynamic pressure due to downflows above the tube. When these two dynamic effects are incorporated into the αΩ dynamo equations, we o...

Solar-type Theoretical Model for Magnetar Giant Flare

In the framework of solar flare/coronal mass ejection theory, we propose a theoretical model for magnetar giant flare, which can explain the flaring activity on 2004 December 27 from SGR1806-20 comprehensively. As is the case with solar flare, explosive magnetic reconnection in magnetosphere takes a major role in the energetics of magnetar flare. However, cooling and energy transport processes ...
